We created this site to communicate with folks in the south Austin area who are interested in purchasing farm fresh eggs. Why the name? Because since moving to Zyle Road just over 5 years ago, we have been exiled from suburban life - completely! With our 3 dogs, 3 goats and 40+ chickens we find ourselves living a life that is in many ways driven by the need to take care of the flock!
We started with just a few birds but then life intervened and the flock began to grow out of necessity. Our hens - we call them ‘the girls’ - represent a diverse combination of breeds and, well, mutts: buff orpingtons, a black australorp, red and white sexlinks, new hampshire reds, americanas, brown leghorns, bard rocks and a very special cuckoo moran. Together they produce anywhere from a dozen to over two dozen eggs per day, weather depending.
The proceeds from our egg sales are being used to pay the college tuition of a young man in Malawi, Africa. When his family's chickens were stolen while he was in his first semester at school we realized that we could raise the chickens on this side of the ocean and send him the proceeds. That gesture evolved into quite an operation! For the past three years we have been supporting Christopher and his family through our egg sales!
